Our Favorite Cooking Apps for the iPad: epicurious

Epicurious is certaintly one of the best recipe apps available.  It allows you to easily search over 30,000 professionally tested recipes from magazines such as Bon Appétit and Gourmet, as well as recipes from well-known chefs and cookbooks.  It’s a great companion to the Epicurious.com website.  The app allows you to sync your Recipe Box from the Epicurious website with your Favorite list on the app.  The search features are easy to use and allow you to look for recipes and drinks by main ingredient, what’s in your friidge, what’s healthy, course, cuisine, dietary considerations, type of dish, holiday or occasion.  You can also search for a recipe using their list of featured and seasonal recipes.

When you locate a recipe that looks interesting, you generally find great photos, a long list of reviews and nutritional information to help you decide.  When you are ready, a tap on the shopping list icon will automatically prepare the shopping list for that dish and it will even arrange the ingredients by grocery aisle.

The app is available for both the iPhone & iPod Touch and Android devices, as well as the iPad.  The iPhone, iPad version is a fully integrated app that works on whichever device you use. When it is used on the iPad there are new enhanced features, such as  a full-screen cookbook view with improved readability that displays ingredients, photos and prep steps all in one screen.  There is a bookmark feature that allows you to keep track of where you are in the recipe, as well as enhanced shopping list features and outstanding photos and graphics. The Android version also has a useful voice recognition capability for selecting recipes.
