Now that its the opposite of spring, I've turned my thought to plants of course because I can't really do much about the ones outside and I've got an awful selection of new ones to choose from for the inside.  We live in a bit of a plant hinterland so not being able to find more than a very expensive potted scraggly evergreen or a few money trees shouldn't be a surprise. We have one lovely fiddle leaf fig that's starting to take off (from Ikea surprisingly), a lovely little citrus tree and a few sad orchid leaf stumps that I feel bad about abandoning, so I really want to brighten things up in here with a better selection of indoor plant life while the outside looks a bit desolate. And because I don't want to make it too easy on myself, I'm looking for ways to plant with my children - a few easy plants from seeds as well as younger, more unusual plants that I can import into our plebeian local plant life and grow over a longer time period instead of going out of my way for the instant gratification of those fully grown plants that I wish I could find locally. They of course will just like playing with the dirt and poking in the seeds, We're trying to do some seeds in glass jars or larger pits in water, so that maybe they can see a bit of root as well. Chances are though that once anything starts to poke through the dirt, they start to harvest the tiny green shoots immediately.

One of our other big projects is working towards getting a dog, so that my poor children can stop chasing down every dog they see and begging to pet him or her because mommy hasn't gotten one yet. We thought we were close, but we've just hit a bit of a speed bump. We've just worked out a way to fit everyone into our house a bit better and make room for a dog inside, but what we still need to work out is how to fit the very big dog that everyone wants into the very tiny bit of open space left in our minivan. Two large boosters, 2 extra large car seats and a mountain buggy don't leave much room to even safely seat a chihuahua. One of those other little things you don't think about before you start to go crazy having babies. If I thought it would help, I'd trade the MB in on that very lovely Bugaboo Bee down below...
