What's new at IKEA: SEKTION

IKEA SEKTION

IKEA SEKTION

It's finally time for IKEA's new kitchen line to arrive in the US. Just about a week from today in fact. The new system offers a wealth of new features that makes customizing your kitchen at an accessible price point even easier than ever. Think sleek and modern design with nearly endless functionality. The SEKTION system is based on a more modular foundation that makes putting the pieces together exactly how you want them really simple. The modular design as well as the wider variety of drawer sizes and interior draw options also add a great new expanded option for organization and super cool customization options that have really only been found on much higher end kitchen lines.

The exteriors have a similar look, but what you can do is really different. There are 14 main door styles, similar to the old styles, but with new names and a few accent door options, including stainless. Installation is now rail based for both the top and bottom cabinets which makes installation really simple too.  Upper cabinets are now 15 inches deep and offer drawer options too. And for bottoms, the drawers within drawers options are now a major component of the design. Drawer options overall are really extensive- from size & placement to interior organization. I really prefer drawer to cabinets and SEKTION makes what you can do with a drawer really enticing. The new system also makes open shelving easier to integrate into your plan. You will also find new appliance and countertop options, including a new plank style wood countertop that I need to find a spot for.

The rest of the kitchen line- sinks, faucets, handles, wall organization- remains basically the same with a few sleek new additions- integrated LED lighting options galore, a few new knobs, quite a bit of brass options, amazing interior organization. I really like the white ERIKSDAL & the black MÖLLARP knobs, the new RIMfORSA & RISATORP series and the cute yellow MÄSTERBY step stool. There are actually a slew of other new items due out in February that I'll do my best to write up very soon.  SEKTION arrives in US IKEA stores February 2 along with a new online kitchen layout planner, so you can start planning that new kitchen right away.
