One of my son's birthday presents was a Kickstarter donation to Tynker which included a minidrone. A drone was actually on his list, but seemed way too complicated to consider as a real possibility. A minidrone however seemed a bit more manageable, especially since it was just going to show up at the door. Turns out, it's pretty cool. The minidrone that arrived is a Parrot Rolling Spider which is controlled by an app from my iPhone or from the iPad. He's mastered flying it around the living room very quickly. I'd not recommend it for younger children and I wouldn't let him fly it without adult supervision, but it's been really fun so far. It can bite just a bit, so be sure to shut it off if you need to say, rescue it from tangling itself up in some blanket fringe before you get all of the controls straight.
